On May 29 / June 11, 1423 on the swamp near the place of the modern village of Antushkovo appeared a “Bright pillar of light, and in the pillar of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, on the Cross the Savior, and before him the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.” ANCIENT RUSSIAN CITY OF RUSSIA. Soon the church was built on the site of the cross. The cross was miraculously preserved to the present day and is kept in the Church of St. John Chrysostom in the village of Godenovo. And to this day miracles from the Cross of the Lord are performed.
The Vepreva Poustinina. For the first time it is mentioned in a contractual charter in 1440. The Miraculous Icon of the Assumption of the Mother of God was an object of special veneration until 1930’s. The abbot of the monastery Fr. Vasily (Kavalerov) was repressed in 1931. The Monastery plundered and came to desolation. Nowadays the monastery is being restored.
